Our Indonesian Family
Zinck Trading House works with Indonesian families to help them advance in business and reach their personal goals. It's a win-win situation. In return for their help sourcing products for us and acting as drivers during our Indonesian buying trips, Foresees Imports gives back. For example, we recently assisted one family in Indonesia to purchase a home. Their two girls, Tiara and Novi, also received bikes as a gift from Zinck Trading House. Bikes are essential to travel to and from school, so the girls are very thankful to us for supplying them with such a simple, but powerful, item. This family have become friends as well as co-workers.
Fair trade
Zinck Trading House practices its own version of fair trade. Many people are surprised that we do not negotiate prices with our suppliers. Why? First, we believe in giving as well as taking. Second, paying a fair price for art shows appreciation for the work involved in making these beautiful items. If a supplier underprices, we compensate the artist either by extra dollars or with a gift of supplies. The key objectives of Fair Trade are to empower low-income Balinese artisans and farmers to better their conditions, and to promote understanding between them and people of developed regions through transparency and mutual respect. Fair Trade's rules guarantee a living wage in the local context, offering employees opportunities for advancement, providing equal opportunities for all people, particularly the most disadvantaged, engaging in environmentally sustainable practices, being open to public accountability, building long-term trade relationships, providing healthy and safe working conditions within the local context, providing financial and technical assistance to producers whenever possible. possible.
Designer Showcase/Kids Help Phone
Designer Showcase is one of the biggest annual fundraisers for Kids Help Phone. Each year, Interior Designers and Decorators, Community Volunteers and local Florists join together to decorate private homes, which local families graciously donate for the event. These homes are then open to the public for viewing with the purchase of a ticket. Thousands of people visit the home to view the latest in home décor and design trends. 2006 marks the 10th year this event has been a successful tradition for Kids Help Phone in Calgary. Zinck Trading House (formerly Foresees Imports) was delighted to participate in the Designer Showcase in 2005 and 2006. Net proceeds from any sales were donated to the Kids Help Phone.
